Safety Tips for Participants

This list has been adapted from tinyurl.com/activesupportbayarea

Write these two numbers on yourself:

    1. 415-285-1011 - This is the National Lawyers Guild number to use if you are arrested. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER UNLESS YOU PERSONALLY HAVE BEEN ARRESTED. This line has to be clear for folks who are already detained.

    2. 415-909-4654 - This is the NLG hotline if someone is arrested and you need attorney support.

If you are going to an action:

  1. Go in a group and create a plan. Have each other’s numbers. Give the number of your support person to your group. Have a meeting point and time.

  2. Have an offsite support person. Share information.

  3. Create a plan with your support person:

    1. Share your information with your support person - Your legal name, date of birth, phone number, any medical conditions

    2. Each time your status changes, check in with your support person. Check-in as often as you say you will.

    3. This support person should know your plan and who to contact in your group if they don’t hear from you.

    4. Share the contact number of the people you are going with.

Other tips:

  • Wear a mask and practice physical distancing when possible. Bring extra hand sanitizer if you have it.

  • Avoid wearing contact lenses.

  • If you are Black or Brown and are arrested, please let NLG know when you call. Anti Police-Terror Project has bail funds and will work through the night to get you home.

  • Because of covid, Alameda County has a policy to not book people overnight unless it’s a felony. Breaking curfew is a misdemeanor. That doesn’t mean folks won’t be detained though.

  • Document your injuries if you can.
