10th Annual Reclaim MLK's Radical Legacy March & Week of Action
Resistance is Town Bizness! Join us January 13-22, 2024, for the 10th Annual March and Week of Action to Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy!
For the 10th year in a row, Anti Police-Terror Project invites you to hit the streets for a mass march on King Day to demand a world free of white supremacy, war, capitalism, and imperialism. Our march will begin at 14th & Broadway in downtown Oakland on January 15th at 11 am.
WHAT: 10th Annual March to Reclaim MLK’s Radical Legacy
WHEN: Monday, January 15, 2024 at 11am
WHERE: 14th & Broadway, Oakland
DAY-OF SCHEDULE:
11AM: Healing Village, Children’s Village and community tabling at Oscar Grant Plaza
12PM: Program begins
2PM (Tentative): March begins
SPEAKERS & PERFORMANCES: We are honored to welcome performances and an exciting roster of speakers, including Linda Sarsour of MPower Change, Fredrika Newton, the co-founder of the Huey P. Newton Foundation, Oakland Poet Laureate Ayodele Nzinga, Malkia Devich-Cyril of Media Justice, Nicole Lee of Urban Peace Movement, and more.
ACCESSIBILITY: Rapid covid tests before action and N/KN95 masks strongly encouraged. KN95 masks will be distributed throughout march. The route should be approximately 4 miles long. There will be a disability contingent at the front of the march and vehicles available to support those who cannot engage in the full march.
It will be followed by a full week of actions, trainings, teach-ins, film screenings, and healing workshops in King’s honor as we get ready for another year of solidarity, community and liberation.
Each year at this time we recommit ourselves to the path of revolution laid out for us by Dr. King and the long lineage of Black freedom fighters who came before us.
As Israel's brutal siege and genocide on Gaza continues, we remain in full solidarity with our Palestinian comrades in their calls for a ceasefire and end to the occupation. Black liberation and Palestinian liberation are tied together, and none of us will be free until all of us are free!

Our Demands:
On Monday January 15 — in addition to continuing to echo the calls from Palestine for an immediate ceasefire, end to US aid to Israel, and the liberation of their homeland — we will take action in Oakland to demand that the Mayor and City Council:
Immediately house the over 8,000 people sleeping on Oakland’s streets
All violence is state violence — we want peace on our streets and healing for our communities
End our partnership with the California Highway Patrol
Hold killer cops accountable
No surveillance of Oaklanders — cancel BOTH automated license plate reader projects
Defund OPD like city council promised and invest in community services and programs
Exponentially expand the following programs in 2024: Community Ambassadors, MACRO, Violence Interruption, Youth Services, and Traffic Calming (Pedestrian Safety)
