Last June, CHP officers killed Erik Salgado and shot his partner, Brianna Colombo, in East Oakland. His family is still fighting for justice, and the City of Oakland has done nothing to help them. Despite the fact that both Erik and Brianna were unarmed, and despite the fact that one of the officers involved had been involved in a prior killing, little effort has been made by city officials to determine the circumstances surrounding Erik’s death.
Traffic enforcement is not only dangerous and racist, it is also ineffective and a poor use of resources. It does nothing to prevent speeding, traffic deaths, or homicides. It’s about harassing Black and Brown people — period.
Let Libby and Newsom know that this is unacceptable. Join us Monday to express your outrage and demand that CHP — along with the FBI and ATF — get off Oakland streets.
