The Oakland Police Department receives about 40% of the city's general fund budget while youth programs, our libraries and community based solutions to violence prevention are defunded annually.
Since 2016 the Defund OPD Coalition has been calling for a 50% reduction in OPD’s budget, demanding vital investments into Oakland’s future. Taking the lead of Oakland’s youth we call upon the city and school board to build with youth rather than tear them down through anti-Black policies and increased criminalization.
