 Victory!

APTP and its attorneys are pleased to announce that the federal court has given its tentative approval of the settlement of the class action lawsuit filed by APTP, Community Ready Corps, and over 25 individuals based upon the conduct of the Oakland Police Department during the protests over the murder of George Floyd in May 2020. This settlement for the first time provides for court oversight over OPD's compliance with the agreement, which prohibits OPD from using a number of so-called non lethal weapons against peaceful protestors; strictly limits tear gas use; and creates new OPD oversight over mutual aid police departments called to Oakland to assist OPD during protests.
